Title: Petroleum, Petrochemical and Natural Gas Industries — Air-cooled heat exchangers
Reference number: ISO 13706

Revision stage:

2nd edition: 2005-04-01
Scope: This International Standard specifies requirements and gives recommendations for the design, materials, fabrication, inspection, testing and preparation for shipment of air-cooled heat exchangers for use in petroleum and natural gas industries.

This International Standard is applicable to air cooled heat exchangers with horizontal bundles, but the basic concepts may also be applied to other configurations.

Interested parties: Designers, contractors, regulators, manufacturers and operators in the petroleum and natural gas industries and similar industries such as petrochemicals.
Characteristics: Forced-draught and induced-draught exchangers, including all major components and auxiliaries.

The standard includes data sheets which can be used by the purchaser to specify process conditions and engineering details

Advantage of use: This is the 2nd edition of this International Standard. The 1st edition was developed from API Standard 661 which had been widely used for many years. It is expected that the 2nd edition, like the 1st edition, will be adopted in Europe and USA.
Economic impact: The economic benefits of standardization will increase as this standard becomes the "norm" for the petroleum and natural gas industries and similar industries such as petrochemicals. Since the standard achieved a wide consensus, purchasers should be able to minimise their internal company standards
National aspects: 1) For the basic pressure containing requirements, the standard uses a generic term "pressure design code", thereby allowing the use of the national pressure vessel standard specified or agreed by the purchaser

1) to be filled in by national mirror committee
