Service and supply companies are one of the five key industry segments in API, and these 300 members are included in API’s General Membership Segment. The General Membership Committee is responsible for providing guidance to API on issues affecting the General Membership Segment.

In 2003 these issues included the industry’s future workforce, federal regulations and legislation impacting the service and supply sector, international trade issues impacting the service and supply sector, and major issues impacting all membership of API.

Doug Rock, Chairman and CEO of Smith International, Inc., is serving as Chairman of the General Membership Committee for 2003-2004. Byron Dunn, President and CEO of Lone Star Steel, serves as Vice-Chairman. James Day, Chairman and CEO of Noble Corp., is Past Chairman.

The committee meets twice a year, typically in conjunction with the API Board of Directors meeting.

Other members are kept informed of API’s work on service and supply company issues through API Connection, a newsletter that is distributed to CEOs and other key contacts in member company organizations.
