Project Name: PIDX Implementation Guide Redesign

2.    Description

2.1 Purpose

Version 1.0 of the PIDX Implementation was developed as part of the Com.Pro.Serv initiative in 2001/02. Since that time, the PIDX XML Schema standards have matured as have the TRP (Transport, Routing, Packaging) standards that support the transmission of the PIDX XML documents.  Coincident to this maturation is increased adoption of the standards within the oil and gas industry. More companies are using the PIDX standards and the size and level of sophistication of these companies is increasingly varied.

In an effort to support these positive trends, the PIDX Business Messages Work Group has taken up the task of redesigning the Implementation Guide and will release Version 2.0 of the document in late 2006.

2.2 Scope

The redesign of the PIDX Implementation Guide will use the existing document as a starting point and will incorporate new materials that have been developed over the past several years by the following work groups/SIG’s within PIDX:

  • Business Messages Work Group
  • Business Process Work Group
  • Downstream XML Subcommittee

Collectively, these teams have developed the following documents which have extended the guidance provided by v1.0 of the PIDX Implementation Guide:

  • PIDX_XMLUsageGuideline_InvoiceResponse_v1.pdf
  • BPG_InvoiceProcess _v0.2.doc
  • BPG_TechnicalAcknowledgment_v0.3.doc
  • BoL Message Users Guide.doc

Since this document will be the primary interaction point between PIDX implementers and the PIDX organization itself, the document should recommend and clearly state the procedures needed to follow to provide feedback to the organization. This feedback will help PIDX better understand the needs of implementers, where the standards may be lacking, and the specific steps required to address those gaps.

The implementation guide should provide guidance to PIDX implementers for the following areas:

  • Business Process Guidelines
  • XML Payload (according to the 3901 XML Schemas)
  • AS2 TRP Guidelines
  • RNIF TRP Guidelines

2.3 Goal

The redesign of the PIDX Implementation Guide will use the existing document as a starting point and will serve to be a single point of entry for all PIDX content that is meant to support the use of the spec. Such use includes work at the following layers:

  • Business Process Harmonization
  • Business Message Integration
  • TRP Implementation/Integration
