The purpose of the Classification Work Group (CWG) is to develop and manage commodity and services classification standards for the oil and gas industry. Since its inception in 2001, PIDX members have collaborated to develop 2100+ product templates and build out UNSPSC Segment 71 defining services for Mining and Oil & Gas.

PIDX standard product templates are openly available and may be accessed via CatMaster: http://www.phoenixedh.com/pidx/logon.asp.

CatMaster provides access to create and maintain a set of product and service component templates with defined nomenclature and attributes to enable, in particular, the exchange of electronic information in a structured and consistent manner.

Services have been defined in the United Nations Standard Products and Services Code® (UNSPSC®) and may be downloaded from http://www.unspsc.org/. PIDX updates to Segment 71 became effective with v8.1201 and have been migrated to subsequent versions.

UNDER REVIEW

In March 2007 a PIDX member company developed or modified approximately 700 commodity templates which are now available for review and comment via CatMaster. Comments and ballots are due June 8th, 2007 but product templates are continuously available for update by PIDX members.

Templates may be developed or modified at any time. Once registered, users may assign themselves to technical committees of interest at which point notifications are sent automatically when templates assigned to those committees are created or modified.

FUTURE PLANS

  • Continue to define and update product and services classification standards
  • Increase membership involvement in the Classification Work Group
  • Update and refine classification standard development tools and processes
  • Market PIDX classification to the oil & gas industry
