API's Finance, Accounting, Electronic Business & Information Technology Committees support a wide range of activities in the areas of electronic business, telecommunications, information technology security, finance and accounting, and information technology applications for the oil and natural gas industry. We support advocacy efforts and standards development in these areas, and serve as conduit between industry technologists and operations personnel. Committees include:

Data Privacy Council -As a subcommittee of the Information Technology Security Forum, the Data Privacy Council (DPC) proactively address data privacy issues that are of common interest to the council membership.

Finance and Accounting Committees - The General Committee on Finance (GCF) is composed of industry Chief Financial Officers. The committee's activities include exchanging information related to the financial status of the industry. The GCF is composed of an Executive Committee and four subcommittees: Accounting, Internal Audit, Upstream Accounting, and Risk Control.

General Committee on Information Management and Technology The General Committee on Information Management & Technology (GCIMT) serves as a forum for the oil and natural gas industry to address issues in systems technology, including computers, communications, and electronic commerce.

Information Technology Security Forum Security is an increasingly important consideration in our IT systems and applications – whether one is operating an E-commerce web application or operating a system critical to one’s more-traditional business model. And we, as API members have a responsibility to our shareholders, the public, investors and employees to manage our businesses well. The API Information Technology Security Forum (ITSF) provides one mechanism to do just this.

  • The Third Party Network Connection Recommended Practice (API Ballot ID# 1013) is out for ballot, and votes and comments are due by January 3, 2007. This document was developed by API's ITSF. Your vote and comments must be entered through the API web-based balloting system to be considered by the committee. WHEN SUBMITTING COMMENTS, ENTER EACH COMMENT SEPARATELY BY SECTION. DO NOT TRY TO SUBMIT ALL COMMENTS AT ONCE AS THE SIZE OF THE COMMENT FIELD IS LIMITED. You may re-visit the web site as many times as you wish to add, edit, or delete comments. The system also permits non-voting members and guests to submit comments by entering the ballot ID number (1013) on the login page.

Petroleum Industry Data eXchange The Petroleum Industry Data Exchange, PIDX, is the American Petroleum Institute’s (API) standards committee on electronic business. For over fourteen years oil companies, their customers, suppliers and other business partners have collaborated on scores of projects. These projects have reengineered entire business processes and operations for greater efficiency and profitability through the implementation of Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) and emerging electronic business technologies such as the Internet and eXtensible Markup Language (XML).

Telecommunications - As a subcommittee of the General Committee on Information Management & Technology (GCIMT), the API Telecommunications Committee serves as a forum for the oil, gas and energy industry to address telecommunications matters impacting existing or proposed operations. The Committee addresses communications management issues and fosters quality enterprise communications services by developing and implementing telecommunications policies and strategies. The Committee also monitors regulatory and legislative matters, interceding when necessary to satisfy the needs and concerns of the energy industry.
